OR Air Handler & Chiller Replacement

Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center needed to replace its existing air handler and chiller in order to properly support its operating rooms. A new rooftop penthouse mechanical room was added, and the team interrupted the chilled water loop and integrated a new chiller in order to add a critical loop. The existing roof was reinforced for vertical load and a lightweight metal enclosure was created so that the entire assembly did not exceed five percent of the existing building mass. The aesthetic impact of this project on the overall campus was also carefully considered in order to create a structure that blended two distinct architectural influences.
