Cooling Towers

Long Beach Memorial Medical Center was in need of infrastructure expertise resulting in upgrades to its existing central plant. The upgrades included chillers, cooling towers as well as a primary and secondary pumping system for its 1,000,000 sq. ft. operating hospital. While the existing two-cell “Critical Loop” cooling tower remained in place, the new cooling towers were placed on a platform in order to allow pumping below. The replacement was phased to support the erection of three cooling towers, use of the existing two-cell tower and the addition of a temporary cooling tower. In order to address acoustic issues that would impact an adjacent commercial building, alternate cooling tower yard wall types were researched and utilized for the project. The placement of the wall also helped minimize disruption of an adjacent two-lane drive.
