Long Beach Medical Center had a goal to consolidate its plethora of cancer services in a comprehensive, patient-centered healing environment. The result is the 64,000-square-foot Todd Cancer Pavilion. From the exterior façade to the detailed interior, the design establishes a distinct identity—an open and comfortable environment that promotes holistic healing. Nature served as the inspiration for the design and this was continued with a sustainable mindset for the project. From daylighting and access to a rooftop garden to nature-inspired artwork, every detail of this cancer center addresses the medical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients while helping them regain choice and control in their healing journey. In addition to patient comfort and control, the pavilion applies Lean principles to improve functionality, efficiency and flexibility. The design supports a new vision for the care team - a collaborative care system.
