Inspired by the Environment
Inspired by the surrounding environment, the 36,600 SF single-story free-standing Central Utility Plant (CUP) design reflects the mountainous landscape. Functionally expressive and highly efficient, the architecture addresses scalability and sustainability. The architectural forms capture the passing wind to strategically filter it to exhaust the building mechanically and naturally. World-class cancer care depends on a robust and reliable infrastructure, so the building was developed to adapt to the hospital’s operational needs for decades. The utilities for additional structures terminate at strategic underground vaults to reduce and eliminate future system impact. Visible from the highly traveled freeway system, the architecture reinforces the hospital’s reputation for unparalleled cancer care and instills confidence in the community.
