Optimized Patient Flow Achieves Operational Efficiency
Emergency Department - Redland Community Hospital
To better serve their rapidly growing community, Redlands Community Hospital set out to expand their aging Emergency Department. Originally designed to serve 25,000 patients a year, the facility could no longer handle the 45,000 annual visits it was receiving.
c|a architects was contracted to renovate and expand the existing Emergency Department by optimizing a balance between more beds and increased flow and efficiency. Redlands Community Hospital implemented a 10,000 square foot expansion into the existing 1st floor of the main tower of the hospital, allowing for the 20,000 square foot Emergency Department. A Lean Project approach was implemented on this project to better understand the current state and to further analyze the throughput and efficiency of the new design.
